Despite the discouraging news on parts of the economy or increased incidents of violence or terrorism around the globe, each one of us has the vastly untapped potential of the human mind. For the past 50 years or so there have been countless books dealing with how to program your mind for better results in all areas of one's life through positive affirmations, prayer, visualization etc.
As single citizens, we may not be able to totally control all the negative incidents of the world. However, we can build a support system or contacts network in our local communities of family, neighbors, co workers & friends in helping each other to cope with the everyday financial, physical & emotional struggles we might be facing! Whether in the same family, where we work, place of worship,
Kiwanis club or card playing buddies, each one represens a good diversity of talents, skills & knowledge to swap tips & assistance with computer skills, appliance repair, home economics, & stress management coping skills to learn from each other to survive, progress & even thrive in these challenging times!!
For example, you have been laid off at the auto parts plant where you work. Keep in contact with you co worker friends to trade what you have learned about auto parts to see how you can transfer these skills to an auto appliance repair business out of your homes or share rental
space in an abandoned shed after seeking advice from a reputable contact from your church or club who already owns a
successful home based business.
Secondly, this now a great opportunity to reinstate the timeless advice of The Autobiography of Ben Franklin into our daily lives. Here is a guy who grew up in rustic, thread bare circumstances as one of several children in the much more challenging times of 18
th century Colonial America. However, through self discipline, constructive daily habits & a CAN DO attitude, he became not only wealthy but made good use of his talents & abilities to help better society around him through the publishing of the inspirational Poor Richard's Almanac & invention of the lightning rod, bifocals & the Franklin stove.
Thirdly, we can become more selective in the type of content in the entertainment we choose. Movies, video games or soap operas dealing with self destructive characters that do harm to others may make us feel better about seeing others worse off at first. However, they are a sneaky & negative influence on our highly impressionable subconscious minds, especially before bed time!! A sad & frightened mind can affect one's immune system over time.
